  • Hello and Welcome!

Working closely with our suppliers and trade associates, our innovative construction methods utilize materials and techniques that consistently deliver quality homes while maintaining our commitment to energy efficient housing providing lasting value while staying true to sustainable building practices.

Whether you're just gettings started or already in the process of building, we hope our site is helpful and informative. If you have any questions, we're just a phone call away!

    What is Value?

Value is an important consideration. Often times, value is equated with cost; however, we have come to realize what an oversimplification and fallacy this can be. Cost is simply one component of value. Value also encompasses the following:

    • Quality, which includes the integrity of the structure coupled with the ingenuity and creativity in the design
    • Timelines
    • Service

Consider this: if lower quality materials are used in order to lower the cost, the integrity of the home is compromised. When comparing builder quotes for your new home, make sure you are comparing apples with apples. Many builders will provide quotes with very little detail attached and its usually the builder with the lower price that catches their eye. Once the contract is signed, the customer is usually nickel and dimed to death. At Dakine Home Builders’, we try to provide our customers – perspective or current – with as much detail as possible to minimize stress and misunderstandings later on.

  • Health & Safety

Providing a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, trades, suppliers and customers is a priority for our company. We strive for the highest standards of health and safety consistent with industry best practices and strongly believe that every accident is avoidable.

Health and safety for all requires a team effort; workers and employers must work together to identify and resolve health and safety problems in the workplace.

Please review our Health & Safety Handbook and help us ensure our job sites are safe for everyone.

  • Building Green

As the recipients of three Environmental Leadership Awards and a finalist in the 2013 National SAM Green House Award, we understand that environmental responsibility means more than just participating in the Energuide for New Houses, Energy Star or the R2000 programs. We believe that Environmental Leadership encompasses careful collaboration with our draftsman, framers, plumbing & heating technicians - all our suppliers and subtrades to ensure each home we build has a low environmental impact. From beginning to end, we look for ways to reduce construction waste and increase a home’s efficiency to reduce our carbon footprint.

    What does that mean?

It means we engage in building practices that may cost a little more but will provide customers with a more energy efficient home for the future. It means we keep our job sites clean and don’t burry the garage when we back fill a house or let it drift around. It means we take every opportunity to recycle materials and reduce the effects of our industry on the landfills. It means offering, promoting and utilizing products and materials that have low environmental impact or can reduce the use of natural resources.

Across the country and here in Regina, there is an increased awareness and concern for our environment and renewable resources driving home buyers and home builders to explore green building in today's new housing market. Some of the green concepts that can be implemented in today's new home construction and remodeling projects include:

    • Optimizing building dimensions to correspond with standard lumber or developing framing layouts to avoid waste
    • Taking leftover materials to the next job site instead of the landfill
    • Making the most of natural heating, cooling and lighting; designing homes to optimize its position on the lot
    • Having the heat loss ventilation calculations done for each home to maximize energy efficiency and comfort
    • Using Energy Efficient Heating and Cooling Systems
    • Increased Water Efficiency
    • Building every home to meet Energy Star Standards

  • Rebuilding Developed Communities

Infill development is new construction on scattered vacant or underutilized lots in the established, mature neighbourhoods of your community. These infill sites are typically located closer to the center of the city and are already served by public infrastructure.

There are many benefits to building on an existing property. Infill properties are mature, existing lots in well developed areas and are vital for rejuvenating neglected older areas of the city. While new developments in Regina have played a major role in contributing to our increased population and economic growth, the re-development of existing areas reduce waste by utilizing existing services thus saving our city money.

Prime lots are waiting to be developed in the heart of Regina.

    Benefits of Infill Development

    • Making better use of urban land supplies while reducing consumption of agricultural land
    • Increasing access of people to jobs, and jobs to labor force
    • Reducing the time, money, energy, and air pollution associated with communting
    • Strengthening real estate markets and property values, and renewing older neighbourhoods and housing stock
    • Making better use of existing infrastructure and lowering costs of pulic services such as transit, sidewalks, water and sewer, school and public safety
    • Adding socioeconomic diversity

  • 2012 Environmental Leadership Master Award Recipient

    Posted by Admin

Each year, the Regina & Region Home Builder’s Association Master Awards Ceremony showcases the exceptional craftsmanship and professional standards of its members. Dakine Home Builders was a recipient of the 2012 Environmental Leadership Award, which recognized innovations that lead to greater sustainability and energy efficiency within the housing industry.

Across the country and here in Regina, there is an increased awareness and concern for our environment and renewable resources driving home buyers and home builders to exploregreen buildingin today's new housing market.

Some of the green concepts that can be implemented in today’s new home construction and remodeling projects include energy efficient heating and cooling systems, increased water efficiency, use of specific recycled materials during construction and even choice of lot.

It is estimated that we produce 2.2 million tonnes of construction and demolition waste each year in Saskatchewan. Almost all of these materials can be diverted from landfills and reused or recycled. Our goal at Dakine is to eliminate our construction and demolition waste by recycling and reusing materials.

Waste is a significant issue for the construction industry. In 2005, the US Environmental Protection Agency estimated 330 million tonnes of waste was produced by the sector. To date, there is no sustainable construction program in Saskatchewan and no clear plans from our government to reduce demolition and construction waste.

The cost of disposing waste to landfills continues to rise. As landfill rates go up, waste companies and technology providers from across the globe are trying to build systems to deliver renewable energy and supply alternative disposal routes to landfills. We are one of those companies.
Diverting waste from landfills brings our industry operational cost savings as well as environmental benefits. It can differentiate us in the marketplace, help us deliver lower cost projects, meet customer’s desires for lower environmental impacts, and enable us to achieve our goal of zero waste to landfill.

Did you know that approximately 80% of a home builder's waste stream is recyclable?

While no one enjoys throwing materials away, we recognize that it takes time and money. When we asked the question of our industry, most stated that recycling and reusing materials took too much time and money; there is also a huge lack of industry-specific recycling programs and services in Saskatchewan.

Current disposal costs represent about 5% of a home's total construction cost. It may not seem like a big number, but it adds up. What if we were to allocate that 5% to waste management instead of waste disposal? Would it really cost us more?

We at Dakine don't think so and recognize that waste management represents much, much more than just money. The true bottom line is that developing new approaches to waste management now will pay back in the long run, even if current conditions do not warrant them.

Sustainability techniques are designed to protect the environment, save resources and conserve energy. Dakine Home Builders' is determined to change the face of our industry by introducing new opportunities to reduce, reuse and recycle construction waste in Saskatchewan. We want to build more than just homes, we want to build sustainable communities for future generations!
